When the time comes to say goodbye to our beloved pets, we want them to be calm, comfortable and stress free in their home, where they feel safe and secure.
What to expect
Compassionate Care
When you decide the time is right to say goodbye to your pet I can come to your home to provide a gentle and compassionate euthanasia (put to sleep) for them. This can be done in the house or enclosed garden.
I will always provide sedation for them as I strongly believe in helping them pass as peacefully as possible. This will most commonly be with a simple injection under the skin (like a vaccine) with a very fine needle, so they can gently fall asleep over the next 10-15 minutes in your lap, your arms, or lying next to you. If they are still eating, I bring lots of yummy treats so their last moments are filled with happy food thoughts as well as loving words and cuddles.
For some nervous, fearful, reactive or aggressive pets we have the option of giving some sedation by mouth/in food before I even come in the home if there is a risk of them being upset by my presence or the injection. It is very important to me that your pet does not feel stressed or afraid during their last moments. This pre-sedation by mouth would need to be pre-arranged as it takes longer for the effect to work.
The final injection will be given once your pet is fully sedated and asleep, and your pet will peacefully pass away within a few minutes of this. This will usually be given into a vein, but in some cases it may have to be given into their tummy.

Do you offer cremation?
When selecting a Pet crematorium to work with, Torridge Pet Cremation were the natural choice for Sunset Vet. They’re an independent, husband and wife small business with compassion, empathy, and integrity as their core values. They offer a collection service where they come to your home and respectfully take your pet in a blanket and basket. They are currently very busy though and this may not be available at short notice. They are normally available to receive you if you are able to drive your pet to them. They aim to have ashes ready for pickup or delivery within 72 hours. I would be happy to facilitate contact with them.
